DESCRIPTION:\N\N\N\N#7114 Treating the Shoulder Pain Free\N\N\N\N\NOne of the most important functional movements of the shoulder is active elevation. Restoring elevation in a time-efficient manner remains a challenging problem. The rehabilitation specialist needs to be a detective and figure out why a joint is not moving and/or what is causing the pain. Shoulder elevation is one of the most complicated movements in the body. The treatment of a stiff and painful should not reproduce the pain that the patient has come to physical therapy to get ride of. f we analysis the shoulder motions it is made up of moving parts all responsible for the functional movement patterns that the joint allows. There are three major moving parts of the shoulder, the scapula, humerus, and the clavicle, making up three moving joints. The glenohumeral (G-H) and the acromio-clavicular (AC) are synovial joints, where as the scapula-thoracic (ST) is a sesamoid bone floating around the ribs. We believe that restoring rotation of the glenohumeral joint, acromio-clavicular and scapula thoracic articulation before elevation is the safest and most efficient methods of treating patients with stiff and painful shoulders. Forcing a shoulder joint that is painful and stiff into elevation is dangerous.\N \NTHE COMPANY HOSTING THIS IS ON THE EAST COAST.  ALL TIMES ARE EST.\NFor more Information and to Register for the Virtual Session: HERE\N

DESCRIPTION:#7227 Vision Cut and Neglect in Neurological Diagnosed Patients\N \NFeeling lost in determining a treatment plan with a vision challenged neurological client? Have you asked yourself: • What is the best evidence-based therapy protocol? • How do you know if you are facing a field loss or a neglect? • How do you determine visual function when your client is confused? • How do run an assessment and develop a treatment plan? Michelle has been in that fog and come out the other side with wonderful, functional, and cost-conscience options to show and share. She sustains that therapy should be specific to the client's challenge and that requires an astute awareness of the impairment. This insight comes from clear assessments that are revealed in this course, along with functional treatment interventions to ensure successful therapy sessions. Michelle shares anecdotes and case studies that highlight how the protocols can be put in to practice. These stories assist in enlightening the inexperienced therapist and commiserating with the experienced therapist. The course content will cover visual field impairment and spatial inattention/neglect commonly experienced after a stroke or brain injury. DESCRIPTION:#7326 The Pediatric Brain Part 4: Primitive Reflex Integration: Solidifying the Foundation in Your Pediatric Client\N \NPrimitive reflexes are assessed when a child is born to ensure they are present. Yet, they are then often dismissed, underestimating the role they play in the continued development and success of the child. However, many children continue to have retained primitive reflexes which interfere with various aspects of their development. The term Primitive Reflex Integration is being used in a variety of fields with various approaches to treatment. These approaches often present the treatment of each primitive reflex as individual movement patterns separate from each other. This course provides therapists with a roadmap to evaluating and treating 8-11 primitive reflexes, with the understanding that they are linked and build upon each other. It utilizes a functional and play-based approach to allow physical and occupational therapists to integrate this new knowledge immediately into their practice.\N THE COMPANY HOSTING THIS IS ON THE EAST COAST.  ALL TIMES ARE EST.\NFor more Information and to Register for the Virtual Session:HERE\N

This is developed though movement experiences, both successful and erroneous. In this webinar, the underlying etiology of clumsiness, concepts of motor learning and motor control will be discussed in relationship to neuroplasticity and the NDTA™ Contemporary Practice of NDT. DESCRIPTION: \N \NSchool-Based SIS Monthly Meeting 08/20/25\N \NAugust 20, 2025\N\N Define the workload model.\N Understand public elementary school district administrators’ perspectives on the factors that influence occupational therapy service delivery and compensation.\N Identify factors influencing occupational therapy service delivery and compensation and avenues for promoting workload model adoption.\N\N \NSchool-based occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) experience burnout related to the excessive work demands associated with a commonly used approach, in which compensation is tied to students-facing time. The workload model has the potential to alleviate this burnout, in part because it compensates an OTP for all tasks performed. This model, promoted by the American Occupational Therapy Association for more than a decade, is not widely used in the United States. The reasons for this slow espousal are not yet understood. School administrators are believed to be the linchpin to a broader use of the workload model. A preliminary study aimed to understand school district administrators’ perspectives on the factors that influence occupational therapy compensation. To this aim, a qualitative study was conducted with school administrators (n = 7). Analytic rigor was ensured through audit trail, reflexivity journal, multiple coders, and triangulation via artifacts. Deductive analysis of transcribed semi-structured interviews revealed three interrelated themes: external factors, beliefs/knowledge, and service delivery. The external factors, such as finances, impact service delivery; compensation decision was affected by a combination of regulatory and fiscal factors, both real and perceived; administrator knowledge of the workload model remains limited; and occupational therapy is clearly valued within the school setting. The study, while giving voice to a key stakeholder group, identified factors influencing occupational therapy service delivery and compensation and avenues for promoting workload model adoption.\N \NAbout the Speaker: Dr. Boileau is a published researcher and occupational therapist, who has personally experienced the challenges that come with service delivery in school-based practice.\N\N\N\N\N\N\N\N\N\N\N\N\N\N\N\NDate: August 20, 2025\N \NWhere: Zoom\NTime: 4:30pm-5:30pm\N \NRegister Here\N

DESCRIPTION: \N \NArizOTA Peadiatric School-Based SIS Event\N \N \NWednesday, December 17, 2025\NLearning Outcomes:\N- Participants will learn how learning to read falls within the domain of occupational therapy practice.\N- Participants will learn performance skills recruited in the occupation of learning to read.\N- Participants will learn about the opportunities for school-based occupational therapists to collaborate with interprofessional teams and support students who struggle with learning to read.\N \NTitle:  Visual Perception in the Occupation of Learning to Read \NOnly one-third of U.S. fourth-grade public school students score at or above reading proficiency on national standardized tests. Current language-based reading instruction methods do not appear to meet many students’ needs. This quantitative correlational study explores the role of visual perception in word recognition skills amongst typically developing first graders. The findings revealed that several statistically significant relationships exist between visual perceptual functions and skills recruited for word recognition. School-based occupational therapists should consider the potential impact of visual perceptual skills amongst their students who experience difficulty with learning to read.\NAbout the Speaker\NDr. Ellen Modlin is an Assistant Professor at FIU, assuming this role in 2023 following a 26-year career as a pediatric OT. DESCRIPTION: \N \NArizOTA Neuro SIS Event\NThe ABCs of DoC: Applying Evidence to Practice in Acute Disorders of Consciousness\N \N \NTuesday, February 17, 2026\NLearning Outcomes:\NLearning Outcomes:\N\NIdentify at least three behavioral signs indicative of emerging consciousness in patients with disorders of consciousness (DoC) using standardized evaluation tools\NDescribe two evidence-based OT interventions that can be implemented with patients with DoC to promote consciousness.\NSummarize practical strategies for multidisciplinary collaboration in developing a consistent approach to care for patients with DoC, based on insights shared from the speaker’s experience.\N\N \N\NPatients with disorders of consciousness (DoC) in acute care are often perceived as having limited rehabilitation potential, resulting in inconsistent therapy involvement or delayed intervention. However, emerging research supports early, structured evaluation and treatment to improve diagnostic accuracy and long-term outcomes. This session challenges the misconception that therapy services offer “false hope” and reframes occupational therapy’s (OT) role as evidence-based and ethical. Participants will explore current literature on DoC recovery trajectories, validated assessment tools, and interventions appropriate for acute care settings. Attendees will gain practical insights into building collaborative models of care and the impact of coordinated therapy on outcomes.\N\N \NAbout the Speaker:\NElizabeth (Danielle) Wengraf, OTR/L, CSRS, is an occupational therapist with 7+ years of neurorehabilitation experience from ICU to return to work. She helped develop and now leads a specialized interdisciplinary disorders of consciousness program, which has provided treatment to over 60 patients since its inception in 2023.\N\N\N\N\N\N\N\N\N\N\N\N\N\N\N\N\N\NDate: February 17, 2026\N \NWhere: Zoom\NTime: 5 pm- 6:30 pm\N \NRegister Here\N
